The state forest is operated by CAL FIRE, as part of the State Forest system. The public entrances are either on Highland Way, or through the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park onto the "Ridge Trail". The Forest headquarters is located at 4750 Soquel-San Jose Road, Soquel. The Forest contains multi-use trails that are either old logging/fire roads or single-track trails. The trails is open to mountain bikers, walking/hiking, and equestrian use. There are picnic areas available, but NO fires, smoking, camping, or hunting are permitted anywhere in the forest or parking area. There is no water or restroom facilities available. There is a portable toilet in the parking lot.
NO motorized vehicles of any kind allowed in the forest.
