Artist Statement
My art is an act of integration & contemplation.
Integration of materials: new & recycled. I recycle wine foils & found objects, use fresh encaustic wax, carve discarded wood, and build frames with materials at hand.
Integration of ideas: old symbols and new concepts. I have always found iconography fascinating, but disliked what I saw as hierarchical use of materials & subject matter. I have preferred the circle to the ladder.
I try to incorporate a wabi-sabi aesthetic: “a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.”
I work toward the integration of disciplines: science, religion and art. I deplore the isolation of specialization. Cross-pollination is essential.
