UCSC hosts a variety of sports programs for students and university affiliates. Different sports groups include competitive school teams, competitive clubs, recreational clubs, PE classes, OPERS classes, intramural sports and drop-in opportunities (such as games of pick-up basketball, jogging, or whatever).

Drop-In Sports
Drop-in hours are for anyone who wants to stop by and join a game of badminton, volleyball, basketball and indoor soccer. Students with valid IDs may check out equipment for free. No referees or timed games are provided. Teams are informal — you may start a game with a group of people you know or ask to join others in their game.

- The UCSC Physical Education Department offers several swim classes, including swimming for non-swimmers, beginning levels 1-4, water safety instruction, lifeguard training, competitive swimming and SCUBA diving.
- The pool keeps several lanes open throughout the day during pool open hours (7am-8pm MTuTh, 9am-8pm WF, 10am-6pm SaSu, as of Spring 2007) for drop-in lap swimming.

- The UCSC Bike Co-op is located in the Quarry Plaza and has equipment, bike mechanics and parts to help you repair your bike for low costs.
