The original Vine Hill Winery was established by John Jarvis, who was also a Santa Cruz County Supervisor. The Jarvis family continued to have an interest in the vineyard until 1933 when they transfered ownership to the Frank Locatelli family, who ran it until the 1960s. In 1968 David Bruce purchased the property and planted Pinot Noir. In 1974 he sold it to Ken Burnap.
