In addition to performing, the Abbott Family are behind The ToneWay Project—an effort to help folks learn to play music and play with others—and have penned a series of music instruction books to that end. Luke and Kyle also perform separately as The Abbott Brothers. Carl runs The Center For Taoist Thought And Fellowship. In 2004, the family appeared on Fox's reality television series Trading Spouses.
The Abbott family plays on Pacific Avenue most weekend afternoons, usually in the vicinity of Marini's (corner of Pacific and Walnut) for about an hour at a time. All their tips go to charity.
The family has recorded a set of CDs as part of their instruction materials.
