Amoeba Records is a California-based independent record store known for its wide selection and huge inventory. There are locations in San Francisco (on Haight Street), Berkeley (on Telegraph), and Los Angeles (in Hollywood). Notably, they also feature free live concerts by bands who are currently touring in the area.
Amoeba sells new and used music and movies (mostly music). It's a great place to find old or obscure items not available at other establishments.
If you have items to sell, they'll take a look at them. If your stuff isn't worth much and you don't want it back, they'll give you the option of leaving it with them for a $1 discount coupon.
One of the members of Pansy Division apparently works at the San Francisco Amoeba, as does Joel Gion, formerly of Brian Jonestown Massacre, now a member of The Dilettantes.
The San Francisco store has the biggest DVD outlet in the Bay Area with 30,000 new and used titles.
The building is a former bowling alley.
