by mk30There are some really sweet Día de Muertos tree grates on Valencia between 15th and 19th Street in the Mission.

"These tree grates are part of Phase One of the Valencia Streetscape Improvement Project.  They were designed by DPW architects John Dennis and Martha Ketterer and manufactured by Iron Age Grates company." []

""People wanted something funky, something that represents the Mission, something that's not too suburban," said John Dennis, a landscape architect with the Department of Public Works." [SF Chronicle]

There are more pictures of the grates on the website of the Iron Age Grates Company that manufactured them.
