Have you ever wondered where your produce comes from? Nearly every fruit or vegetable you buy in San Francisco, whether it comes from a grocery store or a restaurant, passes through the Wholesale Produce Terminal. It isn't one business so much as a collection of businesses that buy from farmers and then sell to grocery stores and distributors. Generally, everyone only sells case quantities. However, prices tend to be 1/2 to 1/10 of what you'd pay in the grocery store, depending on what you're buying. Some of the distributors will sell to the general public, others require you to set up an account and/or have a wholesale license.
The produce terminal is an invaluable resource if you're ever drunk at 4am and decide you need 30 pounds of avocados, stat.
