Andrew's Capital Grill & Bar

Just a stone's throw away from the Capitol, policy-makers habitually dine in and take out from this popular all-American eatery. Some even get their own namesake item on the menu: "Gra-HAM" Burger, "Capital Press" Club Sandwich and "House of Reps" Salad, just ​to name a few. Whether meeting friends after work or enjoying a night out with family, there's always history happening at Andrew's Capital Grill & Bar along with a meal to suit any palate.  Menu items include a wide array of appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, vegetarian options and desserts, of course.  And the Sunday Brunch Buffet is a delectable can't-miss experience with lots of yummy hot and cold breakfast/lunch selections!

A Unique Operation

Andrew's Capital Grill & Bar is one of three entities that comprise Andrew's Downtown (the other two are the more formal Andrew's 228 next door and Andrew's Catering).  Andrew's Downtown prides itself in providing a family-friendly atmosphere that is safe, comfortable and healthy. In addition, Andrew's Downtown has become the second family to literally thousands of college students who have worked for owner Andy Reiss over the last 40 years. Roughly 80% of the staff in all three entities are college students working to help pay their own way through college. Andy and his management team make sure the employees gain valuable lifelong lessons learned through teamwork, hard work, and learning how to be hospitable and responsible. And management is flexible with their schedules semester after semester.  Andrew's Downtown full-time employees exceed industry standards for longevity of employment. For example, Miss Ollie was with Andy for 38 years before her recent passing and Jim Perran is still with Andy after over 3 decades. John Delcamp, an FSU Hospitality graduate worked as a chef in Andrew's 2nd Act from 1975-1979 and now his son Alex Delcamp, also a hospitality major at FSU, works as a cook in the Grill. Former employees are so loyal to Andy and Andrew's Downtown that they started a Facebook group called "At some point in my life I worked for Andrew Reiss" and it has almost 300 members.  Andrew's Downtown is a member of the following organizations: Tallahassee Association of Wedding Professionals, Tallahassee Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association.

Making a Mark on Tallahassee

It is fair to say that no other local business has become as much a part of the fabric of our community as Andrew's Downtown. The historical and cultural significance of Andrew's Downtown is impressive and unparalleled even statewide. 

• Andy has been on a first name basis with every Governor since Reubin Askew.
• The restaurant played a host role in the 2000 President election and was even captured in all of the national media attention.
• Former President Bill Clinton played the saxophone at Andrew's Upstairs to the delight of dozens of diners who had front row seats.
• Sports celebrities like Don Shula, Jim Brown, Dick Howser, Bobby Bowden, Martina Navratilova, Dave Cowens and NFL great "Fred" Biletnikoff have all dined at Andy's restaurants.
• Several entertainers like Scotty Barnhart of the Count Basie Orchestra and Marcus Roberts had their first gigs at Andrew's Upstairs.

About Owner Andy Reiss

For decades, Andy Reiss has worked tirelessly to build a vibrant business in downtown Tallahassee while at the same time, advocating and gaining support to build a vibrant downtown environment for all businesses. Since opening his doors as The Deli on November 1, 1972, Andy Reiss has served millions of plates of food and has been on the forefront of everything from political history (2000 Presidential elections) to personal milestones (proposals, graduations, birthdays). Through the years, Andy has stayed current and vibrant by changing his restaurants to reflect the needs and changes of the community. Andy has owned and operated The Deli (1972), the Brass Rail (1974), Andrew's 2nd Act (1975), Maxin's (1977), Tutto Bene (1979), Andrew's Upstairs (1983) Andrew's Capital Grill & Bar (1998) and Andrew's 228 (2002) all in the same location. In addition, Andrew's Catering has been operating since 1982 when Andy became the exclusive caterer for the Leon County Civic Center - a contract that lasted for 9 years. Andrew's Catering now proudly serves as the exclusive caterer for The FSU Alumni Center. Andy has won several awards over his career including #1 Power Lunch in Florida from The Miami Herald, consecutive Golden Spoon Awards from Florida Trend, consecutive 5 Hats from The Tallahassee Democrat and many more.​
