And, for those of you looking for a place to dance, where no partner is needed, check out the American Legion monthly schedule. The American Legion Hall, located at Lake Ella, has a wooden dance floor and has Monday evening classes in Ballroom dancing, along with instructions before the DJ starts. Tuesday evenings features the Tallahassee Swing Band, while the first Thursday features Jam Blues, where you can bring your instrument and sit in. The calendar is posted at the hall, on the front door, and copies are available. Most dance nights cost $6, and well drinks are available.
Another fun venue is the montly dances at Market Square off Timberlane Road. Meet at the Pavilion, on the first Sunday on the month from 2 to 4 pm.. These swing dances are hosted by Gogdos, Lofty Pursuits and the FSU Swing Club along with Infinite Illusions.. Check 850-521-0091 for further information.
Twice a year the Knott House Museum sponsors Swing Dancing in the Streets with the Tallahassee Swing Band. Park Ave. in front of the museum is barricaded off, and folks are invited to dance in the street, on the sidewalks, or on the grass. Check the web page or the local Limeliight for the exact days.
RECREATIONAL DANCING;
The Tallahassee Senior Center has a full schedule of various dances available. Most dances within the Ballroom Dance category are held from 7:30 - 10:30 pm. Dance lessons are provided at 6:30 pm. These are DJ dances, held on Saturdays..
Contra Dance, the Tallahassee Community Friends of Old Time Dance, take over the auditorium on the 2nd and 4th Fridays at 7:30 pm. Jigs and reels and all kinds of fun. The moves are similar to square dance with caller instructing each dance before the music begins. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. No partner necessary.
Other funtastic dance groups available are Beginning Line Dance on Mondays at 5:15 pm, and/or Thursdays at 12:30 pm The Capital Twirlers Square Dance group takes over on Mondays at 7:30 pm, with lessons available at 7 pm. The Capital Round Dancers have Tuesdays at 6:30 pm. and Dancing For Fun is on Fridays at 2 pm. Beginning Ballroom and Swing Lessons are on Fridays at 5:30 pm.
