Grassroots Albany
One of the earliest neighbourhood environment groups in the city, started in the early 1990's.
They did the first tree survey which inspired other neighbourhoods to do the same, counting and identifying trees growing on people's front lawns and gardens.
They hold an annual plant sale on the Saturday of the Victoria Day Long Weekend.
This year it is happening on Saturday May 16, 2009 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 211 Albany Street , east of Bathurst Street south of Dupont Street.
The group began a number of neighbours meeting monthly to talk about environment issues and what they could do about it at the block level.
They have made a number of how-to information pages which have been requested and distributed to other like-minded individuals over the years.
