CLELLAND, F/O STANLEY ‘STAN’
Stanley ‘Stan’ Clelland was born May 1, 1922 at Maple Island, son of Frances ‘Fanny’ Clelland.
Stan enrolled in the RCAF on August 10, 1942. His initial training was at Lachine, Quebec and subsequently Souris Manitoba. On March 6, 1943 he was posted to Bombing and Gunnery School in Paulson, Manitoba. In June of 1943 he was posted to Prince Albert and later that month he soloed for the first time in a Tiger Moth. In August Stan began Service Flying instruction in Avro Ansons. In November of 1943 he completed that training. In December 1943 he was posted to Charlottetown for navigational training on Anson V aircraft
On March 24, 1944 he was posted to Lachine in preparation for overseas. He departed Canada via Halifax on April 25, 1944 arriving in England on May 8, 1944. Through March he continued training and by June he completed Wellington training
On August 26, 1945 he was posted to RAF Dishford, Yorkshire; N0 6 (RCAF) Group, Bomber Command. September 8, 1945 he was posted for return to Canada and on Nov 5, 1945 he was honourably discharged and transferred to the Reserve
