Walter Percival was born April 12, 1894 in Ahmic Harbour, the son of Charles and Phoebe (Dixon) Crosswell. Walter married Dorothy Poytress on October 26, 1921 in Parry Sound. They had one son Walter Arthur Charles Crosswell (1922-2010)

His medical examination of October 20th, 1917 and his ‘calling up’ was at Niagara on the Lake, June 3, 1918. He embarked from Halifax on August 2, 1918. He was taken ‘on strength’ in the 8th Reserve Battalion on August 15, 1918.
