Sydney Chicester Edwards was born Nov. 20, 1895 in Raymond, Muskoka, the son of Alexander Wakeman Edwards and Mary Ann Thompson.
At the time of the 1901 and 1911 censuses, the family was recorded as living in Watt Township, Muskoka.
Sydney enlisted on March 15, 1916 in Burks Falls. At the time of enlistment he identified that he was living in Burks Falls and that his occupation was that of a farmer.
He further identified that his next of kin, his mother Mary, lived in Burks Falls.
Sydney married Sarah Abigail Bunn on July 9, 1924. The marriage record was signed in Burks Falls, but the intended place of marriage was identified as Ullswater in Muskoka. Both Sydney and Abigail identified that they were living in Burks Falls at the time of marriage. Sydney identified his occupation as a clerk.
In later years Sydney and Sarah appear to have lived in Restoule and Pointe au Baril.
Sydney died July 2, 1970 in Toronto.
In his Discharge Certificate, Sydney is identified as having enlisted March 15, 1916 in Burks Falls and to have served in England and France.
He is identified as having received a gun shot wound to his right hand on April 14, 1917; and a gun shot wound to his left leg on September 28, 1918.
He was discharged February 11, 1919.
Sydney arrived in England with the 162nd on November 11, 1916 on the S.S. Caronia.
He was transferred to the 35th Reserve Battalion but was almost immediately hospitalized with measles and was in isolation.
In December, 1916 he was transferred to the 75th Battalion.
On April 13, 1917 according to the actual record he suffered a gunshot wound to his hand and a bruise to his right leg.
After a hospitalization, he ultimately returned to the 75th Battalion and was again wounded on September 29, 1918.
The wound to Sydney’s hand was described as minor in the 1st incident. In the second, the would to his calf was identified as slight.
