Alfred was born September 4, 1923 to David and Amelia Jenkins.
He enlisted in Owen Sound on October 23, 1941.
Alfred fought in the campaign in Sicily and was killed in action during the invasion of Italy on October 26, 1943.
The Italian campaign began for the 48th at Pachino, Sicily on 10 July 1943. The 48th Highlanders then fought its way up the Italian peninsula, including the vicious battles to outflank Ortona and the unassisted breaching of the vaunted Hitler Line defences south of Rome, until transferred to fight in the liberation of Holland in 1945. The 48th were awarded 27 Battle Honours. 317 Highlanders were killed in action.
