In the 1921 census, Wallace MacFarland, age 30, was identified as living in Croft Twp. with his mother Ellen, age 67 and with brothers George, age 39 and Samuel age 32, The sons were identified as being born in Ontario and the mother in England.
Samuel was identified as a stage driver, the rest of the family as farmers.
Wallace MacFarlane was born March 27, 1891 to Lemuel Alfred Harvey MacFarland and Ellen Theresa Russell (also given as Newell) in Simcoe County. The family remained in the Simcoe area following Wallace’s birth – but by 1911 the family was identified as living in Croft Township on Lot 14, Concession 3.
In 1921, Wallace was shown back in Croft Township with his mother and older brothers George and Samuel.
At the time of the signing of his Attestation papers on February 7, 1916 Wallace indicated that his present address was Ahmic Lake, Ontario, that he was a farmer and that his next of kin was his mother Ellen. (Wallace’s father Alfred had died November 23, 1915.
The picture at left is identified by the family as having been taken February 7, 1916. (The surrounding framing came after the war.)
Wallace was discharged as medically unfit.
