Alfred was the son of Alfred and Lena (Gerber) Raaflaub.
At the time of the 1901 census, Alfred’s parents Alfred Raaflaub and Lena Cathrina Gerber were identified as living in Ryerson Twp. Alfred and Cathrina married June 3, 1886 in Chapman Twp.
By the time of the 1911 census, Alfred’s parents had moved to Burks Falls. Alfred was not living with them at the time.
In 1921, Alfred and Lena were identified as living in Burks Falls.
Alfred Jr. died April 19, 1973 in Burks Falls.
In his enlistment papers signed November 5, 1917, Alfred Raaflaub indicated that his present address was in Fort William, Ontario’ that he had been born in Nipissing and that he was a ‘Trainman’. He identified his next of kin as his mother Lena Raaflaub, living in Burks Falls.
In his Discharge Certificate, Alfred is identified as having joined the 1st Depot Battalion of the Manitoba Regiment when he joined the service at Fort William.
He is identified as having served in England and France and as having received a gun-shot wound on October 25, 1918.
He was discharged February 13, 1919.
Alfred arrived in England March 4, 1918 on the Cretic.
He joined the 78th Battalion in June.
On September 1, 1918 he received a gun shot wound.
The wound was in his left leg. It was termed a flesh would, with the bullet hitting the calf on his right leg.
On January 9, 1919 he returned to Canada.
