ROBERTSON, PTE ALEXANDER PAUL - Regimental #3038508
Alexander Paul Robertson was born May 16, 1896 in Hagerman Twp. to Alexander and Mary (Wilcox) Robertson. Alex enlisted May 17, 1918. He embarked from Canada July 19, 1918 on the Corsican, arriving in England August 8, 1918. He was initially taken on strength in the 3rd Reserve Battalion and on October 20, 1918 he was transferred to the 2nd CMR (2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles), landing in France October 22.
Alex was admitted to hospital on Nov. 11, 1918, the last day of the war, with bronchitis. After hospitalization he returned to his unit. He returned to Canada on the RMS Baltic March 12, 1919. Alex was discharged March 23, 1919.
The 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion, CEF fought as part of the 8th Canadian Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Division in France and Flanders until the end of the war. As part of the 2nd CMR, 3rd Div. Alex would have been present for what is termed the pursuit to Mons.
