RUMNEY, JOHN ELVIN

John Elvin Rumney was born October 17, 1925 on a farm near Coboconk Ontario. He passed at age of 85 on February 20, 2011 and is interred in the Fairholme Cemetery.

John joined the Navy as soon as he was able March 3, 1944 and the story goes he had to overeat (bananas) before his medical because he did not weigh enough to pass the examination.

John joined active service in the Coboconk Reserves on March 21, 1944 when he was assigned as an assistant cook on the HMCS York.

John saw active duty in the south Pacific. His ports of call included Australia, Hawaii, Philippines and China.

While in the South Pacific John primarily sailed on the HMCS Prince Robert.
