WHITE, PTE. WILBERT OLIVER Reg. # 657882
Wilbert Oliver Cromwell White was born April 26, 1897 in McMurrich Twp., Parry Sound District – specifically at Whitehall, the son of William Hillard White and Dorothy Miller.
At the time of the 1901 census, the family was identified as living in McMurrich Township. In the 1911 census the family was identified as ling on Lot 28, Concession 10, McMurrich/Sprucedale.
Wilbert signed his Attestation papers on April 6, 1916 in Sprucedale.
After the war, at the time of the 1921 census, 23 year old Wilbert was shown as again living with his parents in McMurrich Twp.
On April 14, 1923 Wilbert married Maude Catherine Farrell in Huntsville. They had 8 children.
In 1949, Wilbert was identified as living at Clear Lake, a millhand.
In 1963, Wilbert was identified as living in Algoma West.
Wilbert died in September of 1963 in Gravenhurst.
In his Discharge Certificate, Wilbert is identified to have joined the 162nd on April 6, 1916.
He did not go overseas and was discharged from Service at Camp Niagara on September 21, 1916.
He was later erroneously ordered to report.
As noted, it appears that Wilbert was again called up in 1918, but it was recognized that this was a mistake.
