Locust Street runs 0.2 miles north-south between Beamer Street and Elliot Street in north-central Woodland. It is situated just east of Walnut Street and just west of Elm Street. From north to south, Locust Street intersects Grafton Street (which heads east only from Locust Street) and Clover Street. Its north end faces Hobo Alley across Beamer Street, and its south end is just northeast of Walnut Street School across Elliot Street.
Locust Street may be named after locust trees or possibly Honey Locust trees. Its location between Walnut and Elm Streets suggests that it was more likely named after a type of tree than after locust insects.
Locust Street has been planted with street trees by the city. The street trees include the invasive weed species: Glossy Privet (Ligustrum lucidum). They also include Trident Maple (Acer buergerianum), European Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata'), European Hackberry (Celtis australis), Chinese Hackberry (Celtis sinensis), Goldenrain Tree (Koelreuteria paniculata), Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica), Tupelo/Sour Gum (Nyssa sylvatica), Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis), London Plane (Platanus × hispanica), Northern Red Oak (Quercus rubra), and Little-leaf Linden (Tilia cordata).
