The First Federal Savings and Loan Association Bank, later First Federal Savings and Loan of Detroit and ultimately First Federal of Michigan, was based out of the 1001 Woodward building in downtown Detroit. It was acquired by Cleveland-based Charter One Bank on October 31, 1995, but the First Federal of Michigan name was retained until August 12, 2002.
Downriver branches were opened on Allen Road in Southgate in 1973, Fort Street in Trenton in 1976 and Fort Street in Southgate in 1984. All are now Citizens Bank branches.
