Southgate (population 30,047) is a city in east-central Downriver. The boundaries are formed by Goddard Road and Brest Street to the north, Pennsylvania Road to the south, Fort Street and Quarry Road to the east and Allen Road to the west. Major thoroughfares include Eureka Road, Northline Road, Trenton Road and Dix-Toledo Highway. Interstate 75 also runs through the city. The current mayor is Joseph Kuspa.
It was founded in 1958 from the last remaining area of Ecorse Township.
