The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a mainline Protestant denomination that is congregationally governed. It is distinguished from many other Christian denominations by its rejection of the idea that people are required to hold any specific beliefs to be accepted as followers of Christ. It ordains ministers of any gender and sexual orientation and allows them all to marry. Ministers in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) are allowed to perform same-sex marriages.
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) maintains full communion with the United Church of Christ.
However, individual Disciples of Christ congregations differ very widely in their political leanings, and at least two of the congregations in the Yuba-Sutter area are apparently much more politically conservative than the national denomination. According to its website, the Gray Avenue Christian Church in Yuba City contributes money to right-wing causes ranging from A Woman's Friend to William Jessup University to the Pacific Justice Institute. The First Christian Church of Marysville has reportedly become increasingly right-wing too, in recent years.
