The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is the largest Lutheran denomination in the United States and includes Faith Lutheran Church in Marysville. It is a mainline denomination. It supports some abortion rights. It ordains ministers of any gender and sexual orientation. Because it regards weddings as a congregational issue, it never officially prohibited its ministers from performing same-sex weddings. Since 2009, it has had an official policy that specifically allows same-sex weddings.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America maintains full communion with the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church (USA), the United Church of Christ, the Reformed Church in America, the Moravian Church in America, and the member churches of the Lutheran World Federation.

The American Association of Lutheran Churches is more politically conservative and includes Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Tierra Buena. It does not ordain any women or openly gay men, and opposes abortion rights except when abortion is necessary to save the life of the mother.

The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod is also politically conservative and includes First Lutheran Church in Yuba City. It opposed abolitionism in its early years. It is officially Young Earth creationist. It does not ordain any women or openly gay men, and opposes abortion rights except when abortion is necessary to save the life of the mother. It supports the death penalty.
