Olivehurst is a census-designated place in Yuba County. It is located south of Linda, northwest of Ostrom, north of Arboga, northeast of Pearson, east of the Feather River, and southeast of West Linda. It has a population of 11,061 (as of the 2000 census) and a total area of 5.0 square miles. Its elevation is 60 feet. The average annual rainfall is 21.5 inches. The average high temperature in July is 96.3°, and the average low temperature in January is 38.0°.

The native plant community of Olivehurst is central oak woodland.

The U.S. Postal Service sometimes lists addresses in Alicia, Arboga, Pearson, Plumas Lake, South Yuba, and West Linda as being in Olivehurst, because they are all in the 95961 zip code. However, on the Yuba-Sutter Wiki, we prefer listing the more specific locations.

Demographics

As of a July 2007 estimate1, residents' median age was 31 years.

60.2% of residents were white and non-Hispanic, followed by 25.0% of residents who were Hispanic and 7.1% who were Native American. Olivehurst has the highest proportion of Native American residents in the Yuba-Sutter area.

Of residents 25 or older, 58.4% had at least a high school degree, 5.0% had at least a bachelor's degree, and 1.2% had a graduate or professional degree.

Of residents 15 or older, 53.1% were married, 24.8% had never married, 10.9% were divorced, 7.1% were widowed, and 4.1% were separated.

7.6% of households were headed by unmarried partners. 0.4% of households were headed by self-identified same-sex couples.

For employed residents, the average travel time to work was 27 minutes. The most common industries for males to work in were the construction industry (13%), farming (11%), and waste management services (10%). The most common industries for females to work in were health care (17%) and education (14%).

The 2007 median annual household income was $41,862 and 2008 median home price was $151,660. Olivehurst has the lowest median home price in the Yuba-Sutter area. 18.3% of residents were below the poverty level in 2007, and 7.4% were below half the poverty level. The 2008 cost of living index was 92.2 (the United States average is 100).

History

Olivehurst was formerly called Denniston, according to a 1917 map from the California State Mining Bureau.2 It was settled predominantly by the Okie community during the Great Depression. The Olivehurst post office was established in 1941.
