Reptiles are air-breathing, egg-laying, usually cold-blooded land animals with skin that is typically covered in scales or scutes. Most of the native reptiles are usually found in areas with very few grasses or weeds but lots of shrubs and dead leaves on the ground; most lizards find it difficult to move quickly on ground that is covered with grass or other herbaceous plants. Reptile species that are native to the Yuba-Sutter area (having lived here before the arrival of Europeans) include but are not limited to the following.
